Why I am writing a blog?

History of me writing a blog.

I wrote my first blog post back in 2016, about two months after the historic 2016 US presidential election. I just stuffed a small essay into WordPress and pressed publish. Now, that article is nowhere to be found. Although I cannot remember the exact content of the article nor the argument I was making, I remember that it was not well-written. It was fragmented. It was fragmented not because I was emotional and angry - the post was meant to be analytical and logical - but because I was bad at writing.

I was not surprised that I was bad at writing because 1) I never enjoyed it and 2) I considered myself more of a talking person. However, it was up until recently that I realized my lack of writing skills is a problem.

Why I am starting to write again.

During my last job as an operation manager at a startup, I found that people would produce things all over the place (I asked for A and they would give me B). And since I had to work with five different teams, it made the problem even worse.

First, I thought they just didn't understand. So, before each meeting ended, I would ask my team to describe what they need to do. That didn't work. So, I asked them to take notes. Didn't work. I had meetings with them more regularly; it helped but didn't work.

"Words uttered in air is temporary. I need to give them something physical, something permanente," I thought to myself one time. So, I started writing again. What's the logic behind the product? What's the product for? What's the product not for? etc.. And by putting my thoughts onto a piece of paper, I was finally able to communicate accurately with my teams.

Although it was still not easy to write, I realized the importance of written communication. Therefore, I made communication and storytelling my two keywords for 2021.

So why start a blog? It boils down to two reasons: 1) I am a person who loves to share stuff with the world and blogging seems like a nice way to do so and 2) by forcing myself to publish what I write to the world, I have to make sure the quality of the content is, at least, not embarrassing.

What I will be writing about.

I will be writing about three main areas: 1) digital health outside hospitals, 2) AI tech inside hospitals, and 3) biohacking. These topics are not definitive at the moment as I am trying to find things I am interested in and are challenging to write about.
